GOTHAM AWARDS 2021 / GANADORES

Los Premios Gotham nombraron este lunes a THE LOST DAUGHTER de Netflix como su mejor película durante una ceremonia en el bajo Manhattan en honor a las mejores películas independientes de 2021 con una ceremonia que se llevo  con invitados en persona bajo todas las normas estrictas de seguridad sanitaria. El drama escrito y dirigido por Maggie Gyllenhaal arrasó con cuatro victorias principales en general.

 

También han habido dos empates: en la categoría de Mejor Actuación Destacada de género neutral y nominada a 10, la estrella de The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain Frankie Faison y la estrella de Lost Daughter Olivia Colman ganaron, mientras que en Actuación destacada en una nueva serie tanto Thuso Mbedu para The Underground Railroad y Ethan Hawke por The Good Lord Bird recibieron el triunfo.

Emilia Jones se llevó el premio de actuación revelación por su papel protagónico en CODA de Apple , una película que también obtuvo esta noche el trofeo a la mejor interpretación de Reparto para Troy Kotsur, los dos primeros premios de la temporada por la película que Apple Studios adquirió en enero en el Sundance Film Festival por la asombrosa suma de $ 125 millones de dolares.

En las categorías de no ficción, la entrada al Oscar de Dinamarca, la animada Flee, ganó como Mejor Documental, mientras que Philly DA de PBS de Topic e Independent Lens ganó un nuevo premio, por Mejor Serie no ficción más destacada. Drive My Car, la ganadora del guión de Cannes y la sumisión de Japón a la carrera del Oscar al Largometraje Internacional, ganó la Mejor Película Internacional.

NOMINACIONES / EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS 2022

La Academia de Cine Europeo dio a conocer la lista de nominaciones a los European Film Awards (EFA) 2021 en donde encontramos una lista con mucha calidad que incluye a viejos conocidos de la temporada de premios.

Al frente de la lista se encuentran “Titane” de Julia Ducournau, “Quo Vadis, Aida?” de Jasmila Zbanic y la ganadora de varios premios Oscar, “The Father” de Florian Zeller. Las tres cuentan con cuatro nominaciones cada una, incluyendo Mejor Película y Dirección Europea. “Quo Vadis, Aida?” tiene una mención adicional en el premio otorgado por estudiantes universitarios.

Después tenemos a “Compartment No. 6” de Juho Kuosmanen y “The Hand of God” de Paolo Sorrentino empatadas con tres menciones cada una. Sorrentino se encuentra nominado a Mejor Dirección, pero Kuosmanen fue ignorado a favor del ganador del Oso de Oro en Berlinale 2021, Radu Jude por “Bad Luck or Banging Loony Porn”, cinta que también disputará Mejor Guion.

En la lista de Mejor Documental encontramos a las favoritas del circuito de festivales: “Babi Yar. Context” de Sergei Loznitsa, sobre la masacre de 1941; “The Most Beautiful Boy in the World” de Kristina Lindström y Kristian Petri, sobre la tumultuosa vida de Björn Andrésen; “Mr. Bachmann and His Class” de Maria Speth, sobre un genial profesor con poco convencionales pero entrañables métodos; “Taming the Garden” de Salomé Jashi, sobre la extracción de antiguos árboles al jardín privado de un hombre rico; y “Flee” de Jonas Poher Rasmussen, sobre la historia de un inmigrante afgano que también se encuentra nominada a Mejor Película Animada en donde deberá contender com “Wolfwalkers” de Tomm Moore y Ross Stewart.

En las categorías de actuación de estos European Film Awards 2021 encontramos una mezcla de viejos conocidos de la temporada de premios como Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”), Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman”) y Tahar Rahim (“The Mauritanian”) enfrentando a caras frescas como Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the World”), Seidi Haarla (“Compartment No. 6”), Franz Rogowski (“Great Freedom”) y Agatha Rousell (“Titane”).

La legendaria cineasta húngara Márta Mészáros recibirá el EFA Lifetime Achievement Award como reconocimiento a su extraordinaria carrera y contribución al cine europeo. Además, la directora, guionista y productora danesa Susanne Bier recibirá el European Achievement in World Cinema por sus contribuciones al cine mundial.

Otro reconocimiento especial otorgado por la Academia Europea es el EFA Award for Innovative Storytelling, mismo que este año irá para el director inglés Steve McQueen por “Small Axe”, una serie de películas que “explora de manera conmovedora cómo el racismo sistémico alimenta continuamente la injusticia” y “celebra la cultura única de las Indias Occidentales, que influyó e inspiró no solo a Gran Bretaña sino a toda Europa”.

La entrega de los European Film Awards 2021 se llevará a cabo el 11 de diciembre en Berlín.

FLEE ENCABEZA LAS NOMINACIONES DE LOS CINEMA EYE HONORS 2022

Con ocho nominaciones, el documental animado danés “Flee” encabeza los Cinema Eye Honors 2022, premios importantes en la comunidad del cine de no ficción y únicos que reconocen las labores artísticas del género en su totalidad, pues otorgan galardones a labores como dirección, edición, animación y música.

Para ejemplificar la calidad tradicional de estos premios, debemos destacar que desde su incepción en 2009, solo dos de sus ganadores en Excelencia de No Ficción (Mejor Documental) no han sido nominados al Oscar. El año pasado, este reconocimiento fue para “Collective”, eventual doble nominada en los premios de la Academia.

Y parece que “Flee” va que vuela rumbo a la estatuilla dorada. Esta desgarradora historia de vida de un migrante afgano se encuentra nominada a Mejor Película, Dirección, Animación, Producción, Score, Diseño Sonoro, el Premio de la Audiencia y su sujeto a seguir está entre los Inolvidables del año.

Pisándole los talones a la selección danesa se encuentran “The Rescue” y “Summer of Soul … (Or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)” con seis nominaciones cada una incluyendo Película y Dirección. La primera sigue el rescate de un equipo tailandés de fútbol atrapado en una cueva inundada y el segundo nos transporta al Harlem Cultural Festival, un evento musical de 1969 olvidado por la historia (hasta ahora). “Flee”, “The Rescue” y “Summer of Soul” lucen con los tres grandes favoritos para pelearse el Oscar de Mejor Documental.

Después tenemos con cinco nominaciones a “The Velvet Underground” sobre la icónica banda; “Ascension” sobre la cultura laboral en China; “Faya Dayi”, un viaje alucinógeno por Etiopía y la sorpresa de la temporada hasta el momento. Todas están nominadas a Mejor Documental.

En cuanto a nominaciones individuales, Questlove (“Summer of Soul”), Jessica Beshir  (“Faya Dayi”) y Jessica Kingdon (“Ascension”) están empatades con cuatro nominaciones. Las tres figuras se disputarán Mejor Película, Dirección y Ópera Prima; tanto Kingdon como Beshir están nominadas a Mejor Fotografía, mientras que Questlove se encuentra en la pelea por el Premio de la Audiencia.

Además de “Faya Dayi” (Jessica Beshir es mexicana-etiope) la presencia latinoamericana en estos Cinema Eye Honors 2022 incluye a “Una película de policías” nominada al Premio Heterodoxo para híbridos de ficción y no ficción; y “Fruits of Labor” de Emily Cohen Ibañez, nominada al premio Spotlight.

RANKING DE PREDICCIONES - 05

  Hemos llegado al RANKING DE PREDICCIONES - 05 y a estas alturas de la carrera BELFAST de Kenneth Branagh continua como el rival a vencer, le sigue de cerca THE POWER OF THE DOG de Jane Campion, sin embargo conforme pasan los días la brecha entre ambos filmes se va haciendo cada vez más grande.

 En este Ranking de Predicciones tenemos de estreno todas las categorías técnicas en donde podrán ver que literalmente DUNE esta a la cabeza de todas, la cinta de Denis Villeneuve se ha convertido en la front-runner de inicios de temporada de premios, de vez en cuando alguna cinta de gran producción acapara todos los reflectores en los apartados técnicos, recibiendo el respaldo de los gremios artísticos, grandes ejemplos como THE MATRIX, MAD MAX FURY ROAD, 1917, STAR WARS, BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, BLADE RUNNER 2049,  cintas que acapararon todos los premios en los apartados técnicos pero cedieron terreno en las categorías principales a filmes de factura más austera por decirlo de alguna manera o incluso más cercana al drama o en su caso puedo decir más lejos de toda la imaginería visual que da identidad a toda una industria, para darle más "prestigio" a la ceremonia, suele premiarse a cintas de corte más serio y al parecer este año con DUNE no será la excepción, la prensa especializada ha alabado tanto el trabajo de Villeneuve que se augura un agridulce futuro para la cinta en esta temporada de premios.

 Seguimos con la mirada fija para el día 08 de febrero de 2002, cuando tendremos el anuncio de nominaciones al Oscar y de ahí partimos al 27 de marzo de 2022, con la entrega del premio de la academia y el cierre oficial de la Temporada de Premios 2021 - 2022. Sin más preámbulos comencemos con este divertido pasatiempo que nos une a todos como cinéfilos y nos ayuda a genera diálogo de CINE.
